My rag rug carpet at The Henry Ford –

August 10th, 2009

If you’ve been following my rag rug carpet story that I wove for the Sarah Jordan Boarding House in Greenfield Village at The Henry Ford, you might be relieved to know that she is installed!  The carpet was installed by July 4, and I went out last week with my husband to see her. We had lunch with the Textile Curator and some weaver friends from The Weaving Shop, then had a tour to see the renovated Sarah Jordan Boarding House. It was overwhelming for me to see my rug in this setting. I could not have anticipated the emotion I experienced. For me, making by hand is heartfelt, no matter what the project. I hope they get many years of service from this project.

Looks wonderful and I can only imagine how proud you must be to have contributed so importantly to the restoration of the boarding house.
I love your multi colored warp too. Inspiring!

How proud you must be–your rug looks like it was always there–and the photo on your website front is great! Is it in an area where the public can see it? Congratulations on your hard work and a wonderful job!

    Hi Jenny,
The rug is a permanent installation that is on the 2nd level of the Sarah Jordan Boarding House in Greenfield Village. Visitors can see the room which was a boarding room as well as the rest of the rooms in the house. There are many wonderful textiles throughout the house.

Very nice work. I remember these rugs int this house from the Holiday Nites in December 2009. I have a Rigid Heddle and I have done a Rag Rug that will not wear out. I’ve only done trial and error learning. Never took any classes. I would like to learn more. I also have an Ashford Knitters Loom. Please contact me. Thank you, Jenn

Please visit my website and give me a jingle. I don’t have anything planned at the moment, but will develop a class for 1 person or 4!
